Lead transformative social performance strategies that shape the future of responsible development across Canada and beyond.

If you thrive in complex environments, enjoy guiding clients through high‑impact social challenges, and want to influence responsible development across Canada and the world, this role offers the strategic platform you've been looking for.

At ERM, you'll help shape the future of major mining, renewables, and infrastructure projects by embedding social performance excellence at every stage—from early planning to long‑term operations. This is a role for an experienced consultant who wants to make measurable impact while mentoring the next generation of practitioners.

Why This Role Matters

As a Managing Technical Consultant, Social Performance based in Ottawa or Toronto, you are central to advancing responsible development in Canada and internationally. You will help clients understand and mitigate social risks, build trusted community relationships, and align with global expectations for sustainable and ethical project delivery. Your work directly influences the success, credibility, and long‑term resilience of some of the world's most significant projects.

What Your Impact Is

In this senior role, you will shape project strategies, elevate delivery quality, and serve as a trusted technical advisor. You'll also play a key role in ERM's global Social Performance Technical Community—sharing insights, advancing best practices, and helping clients respond to the most urgent human, social, and community‑related challenges facing industry today.

You'll mentor junior team members, drive high‑value work, and ensure ERM remains a leader in social risk, stakeholder engagement, and responsible project development.

What You'll Bring

  • 4+ years of demonstrable experience, ideally within the consulting sector.

  • Proven experience contributing to socio‑economic and land‑use baselines, social impact assessments, human rights impact assessments, social performance and engagement management plans, or similar scopes of work across Canada or internationally.

  • Strong project management capabilities, including work planning, budgeting, scheduling, and project controls.

  • Understanding of the expectations of sustainable financial organizations regarding their risk review and evaluation of projects, including experience with the Equator Principles and International Finance Corporate Performance Standards.

  • Excellent writing, communication, and strategic thinking skills with strong attention to detail. Experience translating technical content into visually appealing and plain‑language formats.

  • Ability to build trusted relationships with clients, colleagues, and diverse stakeholders.

  • This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary ERM teams across Canada and international offices to deliver high‑quality work.

  • Liaise with stakeholders, including Federal, Provincial, and Local Government representatives, Indigenous groups, and community organizations.

  • Mentor junior staff on technical approaches, project delivery, and consulting fundamentals.

  • Lead proposal development, including crafting technical scopes, timelines, and cost estimates.

  • Prepare and manage health and safety for field‑based and community‑facing activities.

  • When required, lead and monitor project management activities such as task delegation, subcontractor oversight, commercial performance tracking, health & safety management, quality reviews, and client interaction.
