Job Description

The Billing Specialist compiles data, computes fees and charges, and prepares invoices for billing purposes. The Specialist is responsible for the cost analysis and accurate, timely reporting and invoicing to the customer for repair, refit, or construction projects. The role collaborates with other departments to gather information about project scope and execution.

Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.

What you'll do

• Monitors projects and analyses information by comparing material and labour costs for work performed/completed and work quoted/estimated
• Performs reconciliations and resolves data discrepancies
• Verifies accuracy of billing data, including labour and material/subcontractor costs, and revises any errors
• Provides project progress reporting for both internal and customer stakeholders
• Prepares invoices in accordance with contractual and internal requirements, for presentation to customers
• Prepares data for Earned Value Management analysis
• Liaise with operational and financial personnel on relevant invoicing information
• Assist in ensuring adherence to internal policies and controls that support current processes
• Update various cost databases needed, identify any anomalies and perform/recommend corrective and preventive actions
• Performs additional work as required

What you'll bring

• Diploma or Degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education experience
• Preference is given to candidates with a CPA designation, are in the process of acquiring a CPA designation
• Minimum 3 years of experience with metrics reporting and analysis, both quantitative and financial in project environment, preferably in marine industry
• Experience with Business Intelligence tools such as Power BI is considered an asset

• Understanding of accounting practices
• Communication skills, both verbal and written
• Good attention to detail
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Office application, specifically in Excel
• Familiarity with all shipyard trades and knowledge of marine equipment and systems

The estimated salary for this position is $80,000 - $89,250. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
