Job Description

The Project Engineer II works closely with the Land Based Test Site (LBTS) Project Manager to plan and schedule project activities, and independently manage tasks to ensure project activities are completed on time within a matrix organization, in addition to other various administrative duties.

This role reports directly to the LBTS, Project Manager, and interfaces across other functions such as: Engineering, Planning, and SCM.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.

What you'll do

  • Determines project schedule by studying project plans and specifications, calculating time requirements, and sequencing project elements.
  • Maintains project schedule by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities, and highlighting conflicts.
  • Helps drive timely closure of technical issues, risks and opportunities raised by the project, to ensure that all engineering deliverables and inputs to other collaborators are achieved and meet (or exceed) commitments.

What you'll bring
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work semi-independently with general oversight from more experienced team members, and as part of a team.
  • Ability to produce and review high-quality documentation, which meets applicable standards and is tailored to the intended audience.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • 2+ years of project experience, preferably in shipbuilding.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, or related discipline, preferred.
  • Professional Engineer, Incorporated Engineer, or Engineer in Training designation with a recognized, accredited institution would be an asset.
  • Self-starter with excellent communications, time management and organizational skills.
  • Technical knowledge and engineering skills including use of analysis tools and knowledge of analytical methods.
  • Outstanding analytical skills with the ability to analyze data and confirm its accuracy and adequacy as an integral part of the collective analysis/synthesis process.
  • Proficiency with MS Project and the MS Office Suite of tools.
  • Understanding of System Engineering and Change Management.
  • Experience with software development methodologies, scripting, 3D modeling, and CAD software would be an asset.
  • Ability to work effectively across a multi-disciplined team.
  • Ability to work independently to develop solutions to complex technical problems.
  • Organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Committed to a high standard of safety and able to follow all safety laws and all the employer's safety policies and rules.
  • Proficient computer skills. Working knowledge of basic Microsoft Office 2010 software suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Exercise good judgments and make decisions in a manner consistent with the crucial job functions.

The estimated salary for this position is $85,500-$104,500. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
