Job Description and Responsibilities

As an Operations Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for supervision of hourly employees, helping to prepare their team to operate safely while still focusing on the needs of our customers. The Operations Supervisor will help to meet and exceed processing goals on a daily basis while ensuring safe and efficient operation of the shredder, and mobile equipment used to process yard material. The Operations Supervisor will also be responsible for training and monitoring of employees including lead hands, operators and labourers and will assist in development and enforcement of the InterPro safety program.

  • Direct the activities of all yard staff to include training, scheduling, assigning tasks, and performance management

  • Supervise equipment operators, maintenance personnel, torch cutters, scrap inspectors and non-ferrous staff

  • Maximize freight utilization by ensuring trucks and railcars are loaded to capacity

  • Establish and maintain comprehensive safety programs and procedures, facilitate safety meetings to discuss yard issues and best practices, organize required safety training, conduct daily safety observations and enter data into Enablon

  • Recognize opportunities to improve equipment, people and processes; submit appropriate improvement suggestions for management approval with sufficient detail to justify cost

  • Ensure compliance with all Environmental, Safety, Health and other Company policies, procedures and requirements

  • Ensure product quality to minimize downgrades

  • Submit vacation requests for approval and ensure employee hours from timecards are recorded for payroll purposes

  • Create production metrics to achieve optimal operational efficiency

  • Help to meet and exceed processing goals on a daily basis and ensure safe and efficient operation of the shredder, and mobile equipment used to process yard material

  • Monitor small repairs of equipment

  • Conduct and report daily safety observations

  • Ensure work areas are cleaned

  • Performs other duties as they might be assigned

Requirements

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 1-3 years of leadership roles (military, lead hand, supervisor or management experience)

  • Valid driver's license is required

  • Ability to lead inside and outside workforce

  • Ability to build and retain a strong team

  • Strong planning and organizational skills

  • Strong English communication skills, ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing, and over mobile radio devices

  • Comfortable using computers on a daily basis

  • Knowledge of Heavy equipment and processing components is a definite asset

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities while performing quality work in an efficient manner with minimal supervision

  • Proven leadership and communication skills

  • Knowledge and awareness of construction and industrial sites

  • Willing to wear required protective equipment

  • Must be willing to work varied shifts and start times, including weekends
