Job Description

Lead the Future of Hydrogeology Across Canada

Are you a hydrogeologist who thrives in the field, enjoys solving complex groundwater challenges, and is ready to take on a leadership role with greater impact? ERM is seeking a Managing Technical Consultant, Intermediate Hydrogeologist and Field Lead in Calgary or Vancouver, Canada, to help deliver some of the most significant water resource projects in the mining and oil & gas sectors. In this role, you'll combine technical expertise, project leadership, and client engagement to support responsible water management throughout the full project lifecycle—from exploration and development through operations and closure. Join a global sustainability leader and work alongside multidisciplinary experts who are shaping the future of environmental stewardship and resource development.

Why This Role Matters

Water is one of the world's most critical resources, and organizations across the mining, oil & gas, and industrial sectors are facing increasingly complex groundwater management challenges. As an Intermediate Hydrogeologist and Field Lead, you'll play a key role in helping clients make informed, sustainable decisions while advancing ERM's growing hydrogeology practice across Canada.

This is more than a technical role—it's an opportunity to lead field programs, influence project outcomes, mentor teams, and contribute to solutions that balance environmental responsibility with business success.

What Your Impact Is

  • Drive the continued growth of ERM's hydrogeology business in Canada.

  • Lead and execute complex groundwater field programs for high-profile mining and oil & gas clients.

  • Deliver technical excellence on projects that help clients address critical sustainability and water management challenges.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams and ERM's global technical network to develop innovative, science-based solutions.

  • Support responsible resource development through high-quality hydrogeological investigations and analysis.

  • Build trusted relationships with clients while contributing to business development and project success.

What You'll Bring

Required

  • B.Sc. in geoscience, hydrogeology, engineering, or related field - with a strong academic focus in physical and contaminant hydrogeology.

  • 4+ years of consulting experience in hydrogeology field work planning, groundwater data analysis, and reporting.

  • Eligible for E.I.T./G.I.T. or professional designation (P.Eng./P.Geo.) in a Canadian jurisdiction.

  • Proven ability to lead field programs, including drilling, well installation, aquifer testing, and groundwater sampling.

  • Skilled in QA/QC of field data and analysis using AQTESOLV, AquiferTest Pro, and Surfer.

  • Strong understanding of hydrogeological processes in mining, oil & gas, and industrial contexts.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and client relationship-building skills.

  • Willingness to travel extensively (up to 60%+).

  • Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area.

  • This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

Preferred

  • 6+ years of consulting experience.

  • Familiarity with MODFLOW and/or FEFLOW (asset, not required).

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate groundwater field programs, including drilling, well installation, and multi-year monitoring.

  • Supervise field teams and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with health and safety protocols.

  • Collect and analyze aquifer data using industry-standard methodologies, including slug tests, step-drawdown tests, and constant-rate pumping tests.

  • Perform QA/QC reviews of field data and support groundwater analysis and interpretation.

  • Prepare technical reports, proposals, and presentations in collaboration with senior hydrogeologists.

  • Support business development activities through proposal preparation, client engagement, and relationship building.

  • Collaborate with ERM's global water resources team to share technical knowledge, best practices, and innovative approaches.

  • Contribute to the successful delivery of multidisciplinary projects while maintaining ERM's commitment to technical excellence and sustainability.
