Job Responsibilities
We are looking for someone to join our Interpro Pipe and Steel team in Calgary as a Purchasing Agent. In this role you will be in charge of the following:
- Product Sourcing & Purchasing: Research, source, and purchase high-quality products and materials, ensuring timely delivery at competitive prices.
- Supplier Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers, negotiating pricing, terms, and delivery schedules.
- Inventory Management: Work closely with key stakeholders including Production, Maintenance and Operations teams to maintain optimal stock levels, ensuring product availability and minimizing excess inventory.
- Market Analysis: Continuously monitor market trends and industry changes, identifying new suppliers or cost-saving opportunities.
- Order Management: Create purchase orders, monitor order status, and follow up with suppliers to ensure timely delivery.
- Cost Control: Review supplier invoices, analyze pricing trends, and collaborate with finance to ensure that budget guidelines are adhered to.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure that products meet company quality standards and resolve any issues with defective or non-conforming goods.
- Reporting & Documentation: Maintain accurate records of purchases, vendor communications, and inventory levels; prepare purchasing reports for management
- Receiving and issuing parts and cycle counting to maintain optimal stock levels, ensuring product availability and minimizing excess inventory
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2-5 years in a purchasing, procurement or warehouse supervisory role. Experience in steel or heavy manufacturing is a plus.
- Willingness to travel at least 2-3 quarterly to other sites.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Experience with purchasing software or enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems (Oracle or SAP) is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with suppliers and internal teams.
- Analytical mindset with an understanding of financial metrics related to purchasing.
