Job Description

Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS-related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.

The Intern, Integrated Logistic Support (ILS), will be responsible for assisting the ILS team in the successful completion of Systems Engineering tasks. This is a unique opportunity that will provide you with exposure to marine mechanical systems from the design and concept preparation phases. You will work closely with the ILS Sustainment and Provisioning Lead and respective ILS Project Engineers to review and verify equipment Part Numbers, NATO Cage Codes, and related technical data for Cataloging purposes.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at Harbourside Drive, North Vancouver.

What you'll do

Cataloging

  • Review and verification of equipment Part Numbers, Cage Codes and related Technical..
  • Evaluating and obtaining supplementary Vendor Furnished information needed to Catalog Systems and presenting this information at Provisioning Conferences
  • Arranging meetings with VSY suppliers in conjunction with VSY Supply Chain buyers or attending supplier progress meetings to address Requests for Information

In addition, you will receive Systems Engineering training assignments to introduce the concepts of System Reliability and the application of Configuration Management with respect to the following:
  • Reliability Maintainability and Availability
    • Reliability - as ability to perform a specific function and may be given as design reliability or operational reliability.
    • Availability - as ability to keep a functioning state in the given environment.
    • Maintainability - as ability to be timely and easily maintained (including servicing, inspection and check, repair and / or modification).
  • Configuration Management
    • To establish and maintain consistency of product performance, functional, and physical attributes with respect to requirement, design, and operational information needed for through life support.
    • Maintenance
    • Utilize the maintenance planning process for the development of maintenance concepts. As conducted to evolve and establish requirements and tasks to be accomplished for achieving, restoring, and maintaining the operational capability for the life of the system.
    • Prepare forecast plans for component requirements and associated maintenance activities in accordance with utilization data.
    • Develop staggering of major components to ensure a smooth activity plan.

What you'll bring
  • Enrolled in a 2nd or 3rd year Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering or Mechatronic Engineering degree program. Interested students should have a passion for shipbuilding and be interested in implementing Mechanical Engineering concepts within a production environment. Students must be comfortable working in a heavy industrial setting.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organization skills.
  • Strong technical skills including the ability to read and interpret technical specifications and drawings.
  • Excellent digital literacy including Excel/Word/ PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction and manage their time effectively.
