At ERM, as a Senior Consultant, Wildlife Biologist, based in Vancouver, Smithers, Calgary, or Saskatoon, you'll play a strategic role in advancing sustainable mining and energy projects across western and northern Canada. This is an opportunity to lead meaningful field programs, influence environmental decision-making, and collaborate with clients, regulators, and Indigenous communities to deliver high-quality, science-driven outcomes. Your expertise will help ensure projects move forward responsibly—balancing development with the protection of wildlife and their habitats.

Why This Role Matters?

What Your Impact Is:

  • Lead and deliver wildlife field programs and assessments that directly influence project outcomes
  • Provide technical expertise that strengthens environmental assessments, mitigation strategies, and monitoring programs
  • Build trusted relationships with clients, regulators, and Indigenous communities
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to the growth and excellence of ERM's wildlife practice
  • Support safe, efficient, and high-quality project execution across multiple jurisdictions

What You'll Bring:

Required:

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in Biological Sciences, Terrestrial Ecology, Wildlife Biology, or related field. Or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years (6+ years preferred) of relevant experience; preferably in environmental consulting, mining, or energy sectors
  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead wildlife surveys and small-to-moderate field programs
  • Strong wildlife identification skills
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following:
    • Acoustic monitoring (e.g., ARUs) and data processing
    • Wildlife camera deployment and data processing
    • Avian ecology and identification by sight and sound
    • Spatial habitat modeling
    • Statistical analysis and study design
  • Working knowledge of applicable federal, provincial, and territorial regulations and guidelines
  • Experience preparing technical reports and contributing to regulatory applications (e.g., environmental assessments, permit applications)
  • Proven ability to manage assigned scopes of work, including tracking budget and schedule performance
  • Strong communication skills, with experience interacting with clients, regulators, and/or Indigenous communities
  • Ability to lead and mentor junior wildlife biologists
  • Strong commitment to safety, including following established health and safety protocols
  • Ability to follow direction and take initiative when required
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment
  • Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area
  • This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

Preferred:

  • Statistical analysis or spatial habitat mapping skills
  • Experience working on caribou projects

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and lead discrete components of wildlife field programs and baseline studies (e.g., breeding birds, amphibians, habitat mapping), ensuring high-quality and defensible data collection
  • Coordinate and execute field programs, including logistics and crew supervision
  • Prepare and review technical reports, environmental assessment inputs, and permit applications, ensuring accuracy and regulatory alignment
  • Analyze field data and contribute to effects assessments, mitigation measures, and monitoring plans
  • Manage assigned tasks or small-to-moderate project scopes, including budgets, schedules, and deliverables
  • Support Project Managers and People Leaders with work planning, resource coordination, and risk identification
  • Serve as a point of contact for clients, regulators, and Indigenous communities on defined project components
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior staff, including field oversight and review of work products
  • Contribute to method development and best practices within the wildlife team
  • Adhere to ERM's health and safety expectations at all times
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across ERM to support integrated environmental assessments and project delivery
