Job Description

Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS-related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.

LNG is a leading transition fuel for the marine industry. As this market looks greatly reduce it's GHG's and other fine particulate matter it is imperative to mature the distribution network. Seaspan Energy Ltd. is building three bespoke LNG Bunker vessels with delivered scheduled for mid to late 2024. 2024 offers an opportunity for an operational minded senior student to gain experience as we transition to commercial operation. The foundation of this role is to prepare documentation and analysis required for each unique operation. The typical workflow is client information gathering, AutoCAD sketches and subsequent mooring analysis. In addition, and depending on the candidates interests they will get exposure to support project management, financial modelling, and market insights. This role reports directly to Business Operations Manager.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at our Operations Center at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.

What you'll do

1. Operational Arrangements Evaluation:

  • Gather and manage technical information.
  • Create and update 2D drawings and sketches.

2. Mooring Analysis:
  • Conduct mooring analysis (with OPTIMOOR) for ship to ship and quayside operations to ensure safe and effective mooring procedures.
  • Provide and implement recommendations for optimizing mooring systems based on analysis results.

3. Collaboration:
  • Work closely with engineering teams, project managers, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and objectives.
  • Participate in meetings and discussions to share progress, challenges, and solutions.
  • Develop templates and procedures.
  • Support task tracking and documentation in MS Planner.

What you'll bring

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's program in Engineering, with a focus on Naval Architecture
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD LT.
  • Experience with analytical software.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high-quality work.
