Job Description

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Business Analyst III, Data Governance is responsible for establishing and maintaining Seaspan Marine Group's information and data governance processes within our data and digital environments. In addition to creating the standards and supporting usage consistency across our information and data assets, this role will actively work with stakeholders to ensure business alignment, generate awareness on information and data governance principles, drive their implementation, and provide support for their adoption.

Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.

What you'll do:

Informational and Data Governance Framework:

  • Defines and establishes a comprehensive governance framework encompassing standards, policies, and key processes associated with Seaspan Marine Group's informational and data environments, such as Azure, SharePoint sites and pages, Power BI workspaces, Power App workspaces, etc.
  • Develop and implement governance policies and procedures across the business.
  • Regularly updates policies to reflect changes in our organizational landscape and evolving industry standards.
  • Oversees and implements metadata management, information and data classification, and categorization across the different digital and data platforms to enhance data organization and accessibility.
  • Ensures alignment with internal and external requirements for an accurate and secure management of our information and data assets throughout their lifecycle.

Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration:
  • Collaborates with business and technical stakeholders to understand their current information and data needs, as well their future challenges.
  • Collects and document requirements, leveraging use cases that can be replicated across departments and platforms.
  • Facilitates the communication and awareness of governance expectations among department heads, while ensuring adherence to agreed processes and assigned roles.
  • Conducts training sessions to inform stakeholders on data governance processes and principles.
  • Provides strategic guidance on data-related governance best practices.
  • Supports the implementation of the Data and Digital Enablement Program's roadmap.
  • Participates in Scrum ceremonies as part of the Data and Digital Enablement team.

Business Data Stewardship:
  • Establishes and maintains business data stewardship processes to promote accountability and responsibility for data quality and compliance.
  • Monitors and evaluates data governance effectiveness, identifying opportunities for improvement and driving necessary changes.

What you'll bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, Business Administration, or completion of a Post-secondary Diploma in Computer Science.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a data analyst or data governance role.
  • Proven experience in information and data governance projects.
  • Experience with business process redesign, including development of as-is and to-be states.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing Microsoft's tech stack, specializing in their governance components, such as Purview.
  • Practical knowledge in data profiling, data lineage, data quality assessment, data classification, data categorization and metadata management.
  • Solid working knowledge in SQL Server and TSQL.
  • An expert communicator with strength in collaboration and relationship building with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience with training and awareness programs related to information governance.
  • Proven skills in the development and documenting business requirements, functional requirements, technical requirements, process flows and use cases.
  • Knowledge of Scrum methodology, Organizational Change, Project Management, Continuous Improvement, and Business Intelligence principles.

The estimated salary for this position is $85,500 - $104,500. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
