POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Globe and Mail is looking for a Puzzles and Games Editor to join its digital games team to help make the Globe Games hub a unique destination for Canadian puzzlers and word-play enthusiasts. 

Working collaboratively with the Digital Games Lead, this person is responsible for sourcing puzzler constructors, editing puzzles and other duties associated with producing in-house word games. The Puzzles and Games Editor is the gatekeeper of the digital puzzle experience, ensuring that puzzles are well-crafted, accurate, and enjoyable for the solvers.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Review puzzles to ensure that the clues are accurate, clear, and appropriately challenging for the astute Globe and Mail user.  
  • Check for any errors or inconsistencies in the grid or clues. 
  • Maintain a consistent standard of crossword puzzles that are well-crafted and enjoyable for solvers, which is especially important when sourcing new content creators. 
  • Ensure all puzzle content adheres to Globe brand standards, including tone, style, and editorial quality. 
  • Responsible for keeping a content schedule of daily and weekly puzzles. 
  • Work closely with other departments, such as the editorial department, to ensure that puzzles are integrated seamlessly into the print editions. 
  • Develop new games, special games packages or even constructing puzzles.  
  • Respond to user feedback. 
  • Use analytics and community insights to track engagement, identify growth opportunities, and provide regular updates to the Digital Games Lead. 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of professional puzzle and games editing and producing experience. 
  • Demonstrated experience working within cross-functional digital teams. 
  • Strong command of language, with a keen eye for detail and editorial consistency. 
  • Proven ability to manage content schedules and coordinate with multiple stakeholders. 
  • Deep passion for puzzles, word games and witty wordplay. 
  • Familiarity with puzzle construction and editing tools is an asset. 
  • Experience interpreting audience analytics and applying insights to content strategy is preferred. 

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

VACCINATION POLICY:  


All offers of employment with The Globe and Mail are conditional upon the candidate being Fully Vaccinated.
