Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following; other duties may be assigned.

  • Required to work in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with company Health and Safety and Other Policies
  • Determine best available machining process.
  • Develop CNC machining processes and the creation of NC code taking into account work holding, surface finish and part tolerances
  • Create setup and operate CNC machining centers. 
  • Inspect your work for precision and quality workmanship
  • Machine parts to the specifications indicated on detailed drawings
  • Operate all shop machine tools
  • Calibrate measuring tools
  • Apply prototyping, heat treating and metallurgy knowledge
  • Assist with the training of apprentice machinists

Position Requirements: (Knowledge, Skill, Ability)

  • Must have good communication skills to interact with designers and other machinists
  • Must understand machining and machine tool setup
  • Must be able to interpret ‘G Code'
  • Must have 5 years or more of CAM software experience 
  • Must have the ability to:
  • Read blueprints
  • Operate hand tools
  • Work independently and with others
  • Effectively schedule work activities
  • Must be able to setup jigs, fixtures and tooling
  • Must be able to inspect your work for dimensional accuracy 
  • Excellent mathematical skills and an ability to read blueprints 
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Must own a complete set of tools
  • Must have good interpersonal skills
  • A solid understanding of mechanical interaction beneficial
  • Knowledge of heat-treating and metallurgy beneficial

Autonomy and Authority

  • Receive instructions on specific assignment objectives
  • Work without detailed supervision to complete assigned tasks, but within clear guidelines, defined standards and specifications
  • Receive assistance on unusual problems
  • Will assist with the training of apprentice machinists

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum requirement of Ministry Trades Certification of Qualifications or minimum of 5 years experience
  • Knowledge of Basic Shop Safety Rules and duties under OHSA
