Job Description
Duties and Accountabilities
Delivers accurate and timely processing of payroll; inputs and maintains payroll data; checks payrolls for accuracy prior to submission; prepares complex manual payments when required; completes financial reconciliations.
Contributes to the development and delivery of financial policies, guidelines, and protocols to ensure the company complies with regulations and good financial practice.
Prepares and coordinate the completion of various data and analytics reports.
Interprets data and identifies possible answers. Involves navigating a wide variety of processes, procedures and precedents.
Resolves queries from internal or external customers or suppliers by providing information on complex processes and the related policies, referring to others where necessary for interpretation of policy.
Builds effective working relationships within the internal client organization, delivering high-quality professional services with guidance from senior colleagues.
Assists with stakeholder engagement by arranging actions, meetings, events, and supporting materials to promote stakeholder understanding and commitment.
Identifies, within the team, instances of non-compliance with the organization's policies and procedures and/or relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct, reporting these and escalating issues as appropriate.
Investigates, analyzes, designs, and tests small changes to financial systems. Provides second-line support to users.
Coordinates with IT about system issues on operational day-to-day ground level.
Qualification Requirements
College diploma in accounting, finance, or human resources related program.
Completion of Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification required.
5-7 years of progressive experience in complex payroll environment.
Proven experience with various payroll, HRIS or HCM systems.
Strong understanding of financial concepts, accounting month end procedures, payroll concepts, practices and methods. In-depth knowledge of payroll regulations, tax laws and compliance requirements.
Demonstrated experience in developing and refining payroll policies and procedures.
Proven experience in assessing and mitigating risks associated with payroll processes (involves evaluating potential compliance issues, identifying areas of vulnerability, and implementing measures to ensure regulatory adherence and risk mitigation).
Experience in developing and auditing financial systems using Business Intelligence tools such as SAP BI and Power BI an asset.
Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies
Strong communication skills. Ability to communicate (read and write) effectively in a business environment.
Strong understanding of accounting and payroll concepts.
Strong analytical skills to understand large and complex account reconciliations.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy.
Ability to prepare and reconcile variety of journal entries, reports and analysis.
Ability to exercise initiative and contribute ideas to improving departmental operations and service to employees.
Demonstrated ability to maintain sustained attention to detail with high level of accuracy.
Advanced knowledge of MS Excel.
Maintains the highest degree of confidentiality in all matters.
Experience with JD Edwards Enterprise One or proven computer aptitude with major ERP system.
Ability to work effectively as a team with good interpersonal skills.
Advance user knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Ability to accurately process payroll journal entries in a timely and accurate manner.
Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines while dealing with frequent interruptions.
Demonstrated ability to make decisions and work with limited supervision.
