As a seasoned air quality leader, this is your opportunity to influence some of the country's most complex environmental challenges—spanning oil & gas, energy, and mining—while guiding a high‑performing technical team. In this 6‑month, casual role as a Technical Consulting Director, Air Quality Engineer, you'll support ERM's consulting teams in Vancouver, Calgary, or Saskatoon, with flexibility for other locations across Canada.

You'll operate at the intersection of atmospheric science, regulatory strategy, and climate innovation. Your expertise will inform stronger decisions, elevate compliance, and drive meaningful climate outcomes for major industrial clients—helping shape the future of Canada's environmental landscape.

As a Technical Consulting Director and Qualified Professional (QP) in British Columbia, you'll provide crucial leadership—ensuring senior technical review, regulatory defensibility, and the successful delivery of multidisciplinary air quality and climate programs across Canada.

What Your Impact Is

  • Elevate excellence across air quality, dispersion modelling, permitting, emissions reporting, and climate strategy.

  • Guide major capital projects through high‑quality air assessments, regulatory interpretations, and modelling using CALPUFF and AERMOD.

  • Strengthen regulatory confidence through accurate air quality permits and stewardship of regulator engagements (especially BC).

  • Contribute to climate work including GHG inventories, emissions reduction initiatives, energy efficiency assessments, verification, and public disclosure.

  • Engage with a national network of air quality experts, benefiting from knowledge exchange and continuous growth opportunities.

What You'll Bring

Required

  • BSc in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, atmospheric science, or a related field. Or equivalent experience.

  • Professional Engineer with Qualified Professional (QP) status in British Columbia.

  • 8+ years of direct consulting or industry experience.

  • Demonstrated experience on air permit annual reporting.

  • Demonstrated understanding of air emissions and emission reporting processes.

  • Proven experience leading air dispersion modelling programs (CALPUFF and AERMOD).

  • Strong hands-on spreadsheet and database comprehension.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced consulting environment, manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and travel to client facilities when needed.

Preferred

  • 10+ years of direct consulting or industry experience.

  • Advanced credentials (MSc) demonstrating deep technical expertise and professional standing.

  • Strong client-facing experience within consulting or industrial sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct air quality analyses, regulatory compliance assessments, and applicability evaluations.

  • Lead engagement with regulators and steward permit application reviews and approvals.

  • Develop technical recommendations and prepare high‑quality environmental reports.

  • Write air quality management and monitoring plans.

  • Develop accurate air quality permits in Alberta and British Columbia.

  • Prepare emission inventory and NPRI reports; quantify air pollutant emissions and impacts.

  • Conduct dispersion modelling using CALPUFF and AERMOD.

  • Manage tasks within scope, budget, and schedule while ensuring exceptional quality.

  • Build and maintain productive relationships with clients, ERM colleagues, and subcontractors.

For the Casual Fixed-Term Technical Consulting Director, Air Quality Engineer position, the anticipated hourly pay is $76.70–$101.42 (CAD). Actual pay will depend on factors such as education, experience, skills, location, performance, and business needs. In some cases, pay may fall outside this range. This role may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/flex force employees are not bonus eligible).
