POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Globe and Mail is seeking a Database Marketing Analyst to support our database marketing efforts in a very competitive landscape under the leadership of the Manager of Database Marketing.  In this role, you will build email contact lists utilizing SQL code, consolidating disparate data sources to develop direct email marketing campaigns that support a comprehensive subscriber contact strategy.  The position requires the automation and scheduling of scripted data workflows as well as a sound understanding and strict adherence to data privacy laws and legislation.  Additionally, the role will act as an advocate for the protection of subscriber data and enhancement of the subscriber experience through increased engagement. This is an existing vacancy, and this position is a hybrid role based in Toronto.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Gather, document and translate business requirements from various business units into executable direct email marketing campaigns.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to confirm requirements and provide recommendations for campaign design and execution.
  • Manage all facets of the email marketing process – developing and managing the execution of email marketing campaigns, audience segmentation, A/B testing, preference management and copywriting.
  • Create customer journeys and develop implementation plans for new program initiatives with a focus on automated campaigns and a personalized customer content utilizing data from disparate CEM data sources.
  • Develop email marketing campaign segmentation strategies based on customer and prospect type/persona data, transactional history and on site behavioral data.
  • Create both ad hoc and recurring email campaigns utilizing Oracle SQL and JAVA Script.
  • Design and create optimized test and learn (target vs control, A/B) email campaigns that leverage previous campaign learnings.
  • Complete quality assurance audits to ensure email creative and campaign list SQL code accurately reflect business requirements and specifications - pinpoint actionable insights, efficiencies, and new opportunities.
  • Take insights and KPI data from our email deployments, identifying key takeaways and areas of opportunity for future email efforts utilizing SQL and Tableau.
  • Communicate insights to internal stakeholders in order to leverage the email-marketing channel.
  • Work with application development staff to develop database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures.
  • Ensure email marketing campaign data is accurate and email creative is error free.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Computer Science or a related analytical/database marketing field required.
  • 5+ years of experience in software packages or programming languages used for analyzing and manipulating data and automating Oracle jobs (PL/SQL, SQL).
  • Advanced SQL skills are mandatory.
  • 5+ years minimum experience performing database analytics supporting customer acquisition and retention.
  • Passionate about marketing automation with hands-on experience using email-marketing platforms and email automation software.
  • Practical experience in database marketing utilizing SQL ie: creating Email, Direct Mail, SMS contact lists.
  • Working knowledge of HTML for email creation an asset.
  • Strong technical skills in statistical analytics, data mining and reporting.
  • Experience with big data platform (ie: Snowflake, Metabase) an asset.
  • Working knowledge in at least one modern programming language such as Java Script, Python, HiveQl, or R, an asset.
  • Understand the principles of relational databases and importance of data hygiene.
  • Tableau (or equivalent BI reporting tool) reporting experience would be beneficial.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to prioritize and meet strict deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Well organized with strong multi-tasking skills.
  • Collaborative team player who is willing to share knowledge and learnings.
  • Autonomous self-starter, comfortable working in a team environment with minimal direction.

SALARY: The base salary for this role ranges from $72,400 to $90,500 per year. Placement within this range depends on a candidate's level of experience, technical skills, and alignment with the role's requirements. Candidates who have been identified as meeting the role's requirements can expect to be near the midpoint of this range, while the upper end is reserved for those with specialized expertise or a strong track record of success in comparable roles. This role may also be eligible for The Globe's Annual Incentive Plan, which is based on a combination of company and individual performance.
