Job Description

Your Job

DarkVision, a Koch Engineered Solutions company, is seeking a talented and versatile PCB Layout Designer to develop the next generation of our award-winning ultrasound tools used for super high-resolution industrial asset inspection. The successful applicant will help execute complex, high-speed, and high-density PCB layouts for tools that work in high temperature and high pressure (HPHT) environments. This role drives the layout process from initial floor planning through to final manufacturing release, utilizing industry-standard ECAD tools.

This regular full-time position is 100% on-site in our HQ in North Vancouver, BC, where employees enjoy full access to our facility amenities including a well-equipped gym, squash court, climbing wall, steam room, and more!

Our Team

You will join a medium-sized team of electrical engineers working on the next generation of DarkVision's industry disrupting products, while also contributing to the continuous improvement of our current inspection tools. In addition to designing robust complex circuit boards for our ultrasound devices, the team collaborates with our mechanical engineering team to overcome physical constraints and design challenges, with our manufacturing team on board bring-up issues, and with our software engineering team on firmware.

What You Will Do

  • Layout high-speed, high-density, and multi-layer PCBs using Altium Designer
  • Execute fast-turnaround board layouts to quickly test new engineering concepts
  • Conduct component placement, impedance matching, and routing analysis
  • Implement advanced layout methodologies for tools operating in high-temperature / high-pressure (HPHT) environments
  • Create, update, and maintain comprehensive component footprints to ensure accurate design workflows
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical design teams during product development to define floor planning, mechanical constraints, and PCB boundaries
  • Participate in internal design reviews and contribute to the evolution of layout methodologies, corporate standards, and design rules
  • Lead Design for Manufacturability and Design for Assembly reviews with fabricators to ensure robust, cost-effective designs
  • Produce comprehensive fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, drill files, and build documentation packages
  • Interface directly with PCB suppliers and fabricators to troubleshoot technical issues and integrate their evolving technology roadmaps
  • Investigate and implement new layout techniques, materials, and technologies to reduce overall PCB costs and advance the team's technical capabilities

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in electrical engineering or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience designing dense, high-speed digital and analog boards
  • Competent in PCB layout for standard HDI FR4 and flex PCB using Altium Designer
  • Familiar with high-speed interface including MIPI, DDRx, USB3x and PCIe

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Extensive experience applying advanced electrical constraint sets
  • Skilled in creating and managing schematic symbols, footprints, and schematic capture processes
  • Strong understanding of signal integrity, power integrity, and thermal management
  • Deep knowledge of high-speed circuit card design and routing fundamentals
  • Familiarity with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and PCB fabrication processes
  • Ability to implement complex design rules from suppliers, manufacturers, and IPC standards
  • Experience with version control system
  • Experience in component level debugging and troubleshooting
  • Detail-driven mindset with a proven track record of producing zero-defect, high-quality layouts
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required for documentation creation, discussions, correspondence, etc.
  • Able to work both in teams and independently
  • Ability to ramp up quickly on new technologies, processes, and dynamic environments
  • IPC certification is considered an asset
