Job Description

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Data Architect is responsible for ensuring the technical support and high availability of Seaspan Marine Group's data infrastructure within Microsoft's Azure cloud platform. Developing and implementing scalable data infrastructure solutions, this role will champion best practices on data engineering and modeling processes. In addition to maintaining and optimizing the organization's data ecosystem, this role demands a commitment to delivering exceptional client-centered service consistently across all projects that involve the creation, deployment, and implementation of new data products, as well as enhancements to existing infrastructure, solutions, and data operations processes.

Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.

What you'll do:

Data Infrastructure Management

  • Develops and maintains Data Lake ingestion and staging of corporate data sources for analytical purposes using Azure Data Factory.
  • Oversees and ensures the technical support and high availability of Seaspan Marine Group's data infrastructure.
  • Designs, implements, and optimizes scalable data infrastructure solutions using Microsoft's technology stack.
  • Monitors, troubleshoots, and debugs issues that affect the performance of the data infrastructure and its assets.
  • Executes root-cause analysis for incidents and actively contributes to lessons learned.
  • Manages and maintains the organization's data warehouse and lake house, ensuring its reliability, security, efficiency, and constant improvement.
  • Enhances existing infrastructure, solutions, and processes, ensuring they meet high technical standards and fully address business requirements.

ETL and Data Integration
  • Develops and implements robust and efficient end-to-end ETL processes to procure and integrate data from various target sources.
  • Creates, continuously monitors, tunes, and optimizes the performance of data pipelines, databases, datasets, and their semantic layer.
  • Collaborates with team members to define and implement efficient data engineering workflows by leading the plan, establishing a new or enhance the current framework, sharing and overseeing the implementation of best practices.

Data Modeling and Quality
  • Champion best practices and utilizes advanced expertise in data modeling methodologies to design and implement effective datasets that cater to diverse business needs and use cases.
  • Establishes and enforces data quality standards and practices to ensure data accuracy and reliability throughout the data life cycle.
  • Implements data quality monitoring, alerting, and profiling processes to identify and address issues and anomalies.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to define, track, maintain data quality metrics and KPIs.

Documentation and Communication
  • Writes and maintains comprehensive documentation of the requirements collected, data infrastructure, data source catalogs, data models, ETL runbooks, and data quality standards.
  • Collaborates with business stakeholders to understand their use cases and ensure the developed data products meets those needs.
  • Communicates effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts into understandable terms.

Project Leadership and Collaboration
  • Supports the implementation of the Data and Digital Enablement Program's roadmap by providing advice and coordinating the implementation of the roadmap with the data engineering team, business product owners, and other team members from the DDE's team.
  • Participates in Scrum ceremonies as part of the Data and Digital Enablement team to support the business product owners' understanding of how the day-to-day initiatives are aligned with the DDE's roadmap.
  • Leads data engineering projects from conception to completion, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Continuously sets and works with high standards on Seaspan Marine Group's data engineering processes, ensuring alignment with industry best practices.

What you'll bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, Business Administration, or completion of a Post-secondary Diploma in Computer Science.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in multiple areas such as cloud application implementation, application development, application integration, business analysis, and Relational Data modelling for OLTP and OLAP systems.
  • Proven expertise in designing and building ETL mechanisms in Azure.
  • Proficient in coding languages such as PowerShell, Python, SQL, Java and Scala.
  • Proven experience in working with Spark and Databricks in Azure.
  • Proficient in using IDEs such as VS or VS Code for development and Git for version control.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps, as well as using it for version control.
  • In-depth understanding of data concepts, such as data types, metadata, databases, data modeling, dimension modeling, change data capture, and star schema.
  • Solid experience with physical and logical design of database architectures for relational databases, data warehouses and data lakes.
  • Database optimization, data replication, database recovery and performance tuning.
  • Proficiency in SQL Server, TSQL.

The estimated salary for this position is $103,500 - $126,500. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
