Job Description

Saskatchewan Distance Learning Centre requires a permanent full-time Vice Principal for our Kenaston Campus.

Sask DLC is a Treasury Board Crown Corporation, created to deliver high-quality and equitable online learning programs to students across the province. Sask DLC's head office is located in Kenaston, with an administrative office in Regina, and regional campuses located in Estevan, Kenaston, La Ronge, Moose Jaw, Meadow Lake, Nipawin, Prince Albert, Regina, Saskatoon, Swift Current and Yorkton.

Summary

Campus Vice-Principal will support the effective delivery of our online courses in alignment with Sask DLC's centralized course development processes and the Saskatchewan curriculum.

This role is responsible for assisting with the instructional leadership and management of a campus community, ensuring that all educational, operational, and student engagement goals are met. The Campus Vice Principal will provide feedback and input in the supervision of teachers, CUPE support staff such as Online Learning Facilitators and/or Online Educational Assistants, monitor student progress, and ensure strong communication between the campus staff, parents, and school division partners. This individual will foster professional development opportunities and create a positive and effective campus learning environment.

Primary Responsibilities

Online Courses and Saskatchewan Curriculum Delivery:

  • Oversee the delivery of online courses by assigning teaching staff, ensuring they meet the standards of centralized course content processes and the Saskatchewan curriculum.
  • Collaborate with educators to adapt and implement engaging, effective, and accessible online learning resources.
  • Monitor student progress in online courses with Online Teachers and Student Support Teachers and adjust strategies to enhance educational outcomes.
  • May include a small percentage of teaching

Teacher Supervision:
  • Supervise and support teaching staff to maintain high instructional standards.
  • Assist with scheduled performance or appraisal reviews and provide ongoing feedback.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement through mentorship and guidance.

Professional Development:
  • Organize and promote ongoing professional development opportunities for staff.
  • Ensure all staff members are familiar with and equipped to implement contemporary educational strategies, technologies, and best practices in online learning.
  • Foster a culture of life-long learning and professional growth through the completion and annual review of Professional Growth Plans.

Student Progress Reports:
  • Provide support and aid with the submission and distribution of accurate, timely, and comprehensive student progress reports.
  • Work with teachers and student support teachers to monitor student achievement and identify areas requiring additional support.
  • Communicate student progress or onboarding and registration procedures with parents, ensuring transparency and engagement.

Recruitment and Hiring:
  • Conduct and participate in panel interviews when necessary.
  • Collaborate with Campus Principals and Senior Administration to ensure that staffing levels and skill sets align with the needs of Sask DLC and its students.

Communications:
  • Act as the secondary point of contact for parents and guardians, ensuring regular and open communication about campus or organization-wide activities, student progress, and general updates.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and other educational stakeholders.
  • Address parent concerns promptly and professionally, while maintaining a focus on student well-being and success.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to change.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to manage confidential material and maintain staff and student privacy.
  • Proficiency in digital platforms for teaching and communication.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage a virtual classroom effectively, maintaining student engagement and fostering a positive learning environment.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and reflective teaching practices.
  • Knowledge and experience integrating Indigenous content, perspectives, and cultural practices into the curriculum.
  • Familiarity with assessment tools and strategies for online learning.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues in a remote context.
  • Passion for fostering inclusive, culturally relevant learning experiences for all students.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.).
  • Previous experience supervising and supporting teaching and student support staff.
  • Proven educational leadership and preferably, online curriculum delivery.
  • Valid Saskatchewan teaching certificate with SPTRB and membership with STF.
  • Master's degree in education or related field (preferred).

Employment Conditions
  • Office environment/setting.
  • Typical core office hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) Monday to Friday.
  • Travel as required.
