Job Description and Responsibilities

Responsible for weighing and grading non-ferrous scrap materials received from customers as well as through the company's bin service. Ensure that all materials are assessed fairly, accurately, and consistently according to established grading standards. This includes verifying the type and quality of the scrap to determine its value. Additionally, assist in the processing of materials by sorting and preparing them for storage. Help with the proper storage of graded materials and support the loading process for customer purchases, ensuring that all transactions are conducted efficiently and safely.

  • Inspect and properly categorize Non-Ferrous metals brought in by peddlers and commercial customers, in a professional and courteous manner

  • Assist with material sorting, organization, cleanliness, and other tasks as needed

  • Assist with inventory counts

  • Ensure a clean and safe purchasing, production, and storage area

  • Help with material processing when not engaged in purchasing activities

  • Provide guidance to Non-ferrous Laborers to ensure material quality and production efficiency

  • Outdoor work required from time to time

  • Load trucks with skid steer, ensuring optimal freight utilization

  • Communicate effectively with heavy equipment operators when required to process/move material

Requirements

  • Minimum education level – completion of High School or GED equivalent

  • No experience necessary, but previous work experience in a manufacturing, production, or similar scrapyard environment will be considered an asset

  • Customer focus: Take responsibility for developing excellent customer service, making sure that all purchases are handled professionally and expeditiously

  • Communication Skills: Communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

  • Team Player: Establishes trust with team members, stating clear expectations, and recognizes group morale and acts to protect and/or build as required

  • Strong work ethic – uses time efficiently, works safely, and ensures everyone around him/her is working safely
