POSITION OVERVIEW: 

Reporting to the Events Marketing Lead within the corporate marketing department, the Event Marketing & Communications Specialist will help build brand awareness, increase audience engagement and drive attendance at Globe and Mail events. The role will collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to deliver high-quality communications and content, and will complete a wide range of tasks including writing creative briefs, overseeing social campaigns, writing/approving email copy and booking ad campaigns to drive event registration.

This role will be supported by the entire events team, internal and external creative services as well as The Globe's CRM and analytics experts.   

This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, hands-on environment and has a strong interest in sponsorship marketing, digital marketing as well as corporate events. The ideal candidate will be technologically savvy, comfortable with a wide range of publishing platforms, and a strong collaborator. Sound judgement, excellent copywriting skills, strong social media marketing skills and an ability to juggle multiple and sometimes conflicting priorities will be essential to their success. Previous experience working with creative agencies, basic HTML, CSS, Photoshop or InDesign, and/or experience with Squarespace or the Splash event marketing platform would be an asset. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Support the Events Marketing Lead in the marketing of B2B and B2C events to drive attendance at our events. 
  • Develop promotional packages and create social media content for events with a focus on LinkedIn, and work with external partners on social campaigns.
  • Manage print and digital ad bookings and support the Events Marketing Lead in email campaigns. 
  • Develop and implement promotional strategies across various channels. 
  • Write copy and creative briefs as needed for event advertising, event websites and/or event sales materials. 
  • Help maintain event collateral such as websites, email communications as well as sponsorship sales support material.   
  • Track event KPIs and prepare post-event reports with insights and recommendations. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent training in marketing, communications, public relations or sponsorship marketing. 
  • 3+ years' work experience in event marketing. 
  • Demonstrated experience in social media management and content creation.
  • Advanced writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt content for various platforms and audiences.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines. 
  • A collaborative mindset and a passion for journalism and audience engagement. 
  • Working knowledge of digital publishing platforms such as Splash, Eventbrite, Squarespace and/or Canva, Photoshop, Illustrator or InDesign an asset.
