We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time position as a Controller. This position will be required to work in a hybrid work arrangement (from home and from the Toronto office).

What will you do?

Reporting to the Vice-President, Finance, the Controller will provide day-to-day management to the Finance Department to ensure the finance function is organized and efficient and produces accurate financial reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. The Controller will also formulate relevant and timely reports on financial data analytics and other key metrics.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day accounting functions, ensuring that each key function runs smoothly including general accounting, accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
  • Oversee the timely preparation of the monthly financial statements and conduct analysis for presentation to the VP, Finance
  • Establish and produce key financial metrics and ad hoc reports as necessary, in conjunction with VP, Finance
  • Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees, following up on work results
  • Research and respond to ongoing enquiries from respective departments
  • Proactively ensure that appropriate systems and internal controls are implemented, documented, and maintained, identifying, and recommending improvements
  • Support VP, Finance in the development of organization-wide budget and management of the Finance department budget
  • Key role in the annual audit, maintain relationship with external auditors and coordinate the provision of information and schedules
  • Manage the preparation of tax and other regulatory reports
  • Coach, mentor and develop Finance department personnel
  • Maintains financial staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees
  • Participate in various working committees, as required

 What makes a successful Controller?

  • Degree or Diploma in Finance or Accounting or equivalent holding a valid CPA designation
  • Five years of prior experience working in a finance capacity with three years of prior management experience
  • Computer literate with knowledge of accounting software principles.  Knowledge of Microsoft NAV/Business Central and SAP Concur Expense is an asset
  • Proven high degree of accuracy, speed and attention to detail are required
  • Quick learner with ability to pick up new technologies/skills and business knowledge
  • Well organized and work within timelines effectively providing high levels of efficiency and productivity
  • Must be sensitive to the nature of the information and must preserve all information confidential
  • A high level of tact and discretion is required to ensure that the appropriate image of CFIB is maintained with all contacts
  • Excellent English communications skills (both written and verbal), knowledge of French is an asset
