Job Description

Shape Canada's Most Complex Environmental Projects Into Real-World Impact

Step into a high-impact leadership role with ERM, one of the world's leading sustainability and environmental consulting firms. As a Principal Consultant, Senior Project Manager (Environmental Assessment) based in Canada, you will lead complex, multidisciplinary environmental projects with budgets of up to $2M+, guiding them from strategy through execution. This is an opportunity to influence nationally significant mining, energy, and infrastructure initiatives—balancing environmental responsibility, regulatory excellence, and commercial success. Your leadership will help shape projects that deliver lasting environmental, social, and economic value.

Why This Role Matters?

ERM's clients depend on us to deliver critical capital projects where environmental, regulatory, and social considerations are central to success. In this role, you will provide senior-level project leadership—ensuring delivery is safe, on schedule, within budget, and aligned with the highest quality standards.

You'll act as a trusted advisor, helping clients navigate complex regulatory landscapes, mitigate risks, and make informed decisions. Your work will directly strengthen long-term client partnerships, drive repeat business, and reinforce ERM's reputation for delivering high-profile, multi-stakeholder projects with integrity and precision.

What Your Impact Is:

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of complex environmental projects and proposals, including EAs/EISs, permitting, management plans, and regulatory strategies

  • Translate client objectives into clear execution plans—aligning scope, budget, timelines, and team resources

  • Partner with senior client stakeholders to understand priorities, manage risks, and deliver practical, defensible solutions

  • Ensure strong project controls across financial performance, forecasting, invoicing, and risk management

  • Drive business growth by identifying opportunities, shaping pursuits, and supporting proposal development

  • Mentor and develop project managers and technical teams, strengthening ERM's delivery capability

  • Foster collaboration across ERM's national and global network

  • Champion a culture of health, safety, quality, and environmental stewardship

What You'll Bring:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, or a related field; advanced degree is an asset

  • 6+ years of consulting experience in environmental or related technical disciplines, with progressive responsibility for complex project delivery

  • Demonstrated experience in the mining and/or energy sectors, including regulatory-driven capital projects

  • Proven ability to provide senior-level oversight of complex environmental scopes across multiple projects and clients

  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and time-management skills in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments

  • Ability to work independently while aligning with ERM governance, quality, and risk management expectations

  • Demonstrated proficiency in project management practices, including change management, risk management, quality management, and financial controls

  • Strong financial acumen, including budget oversight, forecasting, invoicing, and performance management

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and familiarity with project management tools and reporting

  • Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area.

Preferred

  • 8+ years of consulting experience preferred in environmental or related technical disciplines, with progressive responsibility for complex project delivery

  • Experience developing and managing complex project schedules, including dependencies and critical path analysis

  • Proficiency with scheduling and tracking tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6, Smartsheet)

  • Experience overseeing environmental, regulatory, permitting, and/or field programs across disciplines

  • Field experience (e.g., wildlife, terrestrial ecology, soils, wetlands, aquatic biology, hydrology) to support oversight and review

  • Experience identifying client opportunities and influencing pursuit strategy, scope, and commercial positioning

  • PMP or equivalent project management certification

  • Bilingual in English and French and/or Spanish

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide senior leadership across multiple concurrent projects, ensuring delivery meets scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety expectations

  • Act as the primary point of accountability from proposal through execution and final delivery

  • Lead, mentor, and develop project teams, fostering accountability and career growth

  • Champion health, safety, and risk management across all projects

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, managing expectations and resolving issues proactively

  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and subcontractors to deliver high-quality technical outputs

  • Oversee financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, invoicing, and cost control

  • Develop and manage integrated project schedules, resourcing plans, and delivery strategies

  • Support business development efforts, including opportunity identification, proposal development, and client expansion

  • Contribute to team growth, including hiring, retention, performance management, and continuous improvement

  • Drive collaboration across ERM's global network and share best practices

  • Provide senior-level review of technical analysis and deliverables to ensure quality and defensibility
