Job Description

Your Job

DarkVision is looking for a talented entry- to mid-level CNC Machinist to join our Prototype Manufacturing team and work on the next generation of our state-of-the-art ultrasound imaging solutions. As the "afternoon shift", your day will start later in the day (flexible, your choice of start time between 12pm to 3pm) to keep the spindles running longer.

This position will provide you with an opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team of machinists, engineers, technicians, and designers to innovate new technology/product ideas and concepts from scratch, starting with conception and ideation and ending with working prototype or proof-of-concept. Your focus and challenge will be to enable their prototyping, design iterations, and testing by utilizing your expertise in precision machining to bring their designs to life.

The ideal candidate is dependable and adaptable, has a get-it-done attitude where no work is above or beneath you, and has a passion for supporting others and working collaboratively in a close-knit team.

What You Will Do

  • Operate and maintain a variety of CNC machines and equipment: Haas ST-30Y live tooling lathe, Haas VF-3SSYT, VF-4SS, Hydmech S20 bandsaw, FlexArm pneumatic tapping arm.
  • Prepare CNC machines for small production runs and one-off prototype parts: workholding setup, tooling setup and offset verification, CAM simulation verification, etc.
  • Inspect and qualify machined components.
  • Stock tooling, workholding, and material to quickly respond to new projects.
  • Maintain shop organization - a clean shop is an efficient shop.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Experience operating CNC machines - 1 year minimum.
  • The emphasis for this role is aptitudes and attitudes rather than experience. If you can learn quickly, be creative, find clever ways to solve problems, and be a collaborative member of the team then only limited experience is required!

What Will Put You Ahead

  • CNC Machinist training program/certificate (BCIT CNC Machinist Technician program or similar)
  • Experience with CAM software: Autodesk Fusion preferred.
  • Experience running Haas and Tormach CNC machines.
  • Tight tolerance machining and QC (+-.001").
  • QC experience/knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
  • Live tooling CNC lathes/4th axis CNC mill experience.
  • Prior experience in design or fabrication of tooling or fixtures.
  • Desire to collaborate, with an active pursuit of new ideas, perspectives, and ways of getting the job done.
  • Strong mechanical and computer aptitude.
  • Eager to learn and continually develop your skills.
  • Strong communication skills and fluent in both oral and written English.
  • High level of safety awareness and orientation.
