Job Description

ERM is hiring an Environmental Construction Supervisor to lead a team to deliver environmental compliance during construction on a mine site in northern Canada, near Smithers, British Columbia. In this role, you will lead the environmental monitor team to deliver compliance during construction activities by implementing and upholding the Construction Environmental Management Plan and associated plans (i.e. Wildlife Management Plan, Erosion and Sediment Control Plan, Vegetation Management Plan). This is a full-time role (12 hours per day - 10 hrs in the winter, 84 hours per week, 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off), term role with a duration of 12 - 18 months, extendable. Training will be provided for client-specific and site-specific safety, security, sampling, and inspection procedures.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act on behalf of client to coordinate staff, train, and oversee Environmental Construction Monitors during the construction phase of the Project.
  • Report on site to the Site Environmental Managers and off-site to the ERM PM/PIC.
  • Manage and provide supervisory oversight and quality control of two on-site Environmental Construction Monitors (ECMs) to monitor construction activities in compliance with federal and provincial permit conditions, environmental management plans, and Indigenous partnership monitoring requirements through construction, commissioning, and early operations
  • Support field implementation of mitigation measures
  • Promote safety awareness and the safe performance of our work.
  • Identify, document, and communicate environmental risks and improvements
  • Lead corrective action investigations with client team to support rapid issue resolution
  • Assist in the technical interpretations of permit requirements
  • Coordinate and integrate Indigenous monitors on-site
  • Adhere to data management and quality standards.
  • Participate in construction planning, daily briefings, and contractor meetings
  • Ensure ECM observations translate into timely guidance and corrective actions
  • Supporting preparation of data and documentation needed for regulatory engagement
  • Support implementation of in-field ECM training programs with local and Indigenous community members
  • Help to develop or refine ECM field protocols, checklists, and data collection tools
  • Complete daily field reports and communicate clearly with Project Management team
  • Contribute to a positive, professional environment.

SCHEDULE:

  • Shifts will be two weeks in length with two-week breaks between shifts. Shifts may occur over weekends and holidays.
  • Daily hours will vary depending on the site location and work to be completed, to a maximum of 12-hour days.
  • Workdays are scheduled as far in advance as possible; however, flexibility is required due to potential last-minute changes.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 4 years of environmental monitoring experience on a large construction project, preferably in a supervisory role
  • Mine site experience preferred.
  • Proven leadership and communication skills, with eh ability to lead, teach, and delegate tasks to ECMs, resolve issues, and implement solutions, while fostering collaboration
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and management multiple aspects of a project under pressure
  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Biological or Environmental Sciences, or related field preferred.
  • First Aid certification
  • Ability to walk long distances and carry heavy field equipment.
  • Ability to work in remote locations in varied weather conditions and on varied terrain.
  • Adaptability and flexibility.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint) for communication and field reporting.
  • Proficient in use of Global Positioning System (GPS) units for navigation and data capture.
  • A valid driver's license and a good driving record; ability to drive to the various project locations; ability to rent a vehicle.
  • Must be willing to submit to pre-employment background check and drug screen.

Pay Transparency: 

For the Environmental Construction Supervisor position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $76,819-$98,928, $36.93/hr – $47.56/hr CAD, limited-term, non-exempt.  An employee's pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs.  We also may have instances where employee's fall outside of the range based on the factors noted above.  This job may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/Flexforce employees are NOT bonus eligible).
