DarkVision, a Koch Engineered Solutions company, is looking for a curious and motivated Research Scientist to join our R&D team and participate in the development of our upcoming ultrasound-based products. The right candidate is a creative individual who is passionate about solving real-world problems, and has a strong theoretical background in ultrasound, especially in its use for industrial applications. The position will focus on scientific research, including theoretical validation, simulation, and experimentation of different ultrasound modes and methodologies.

This position will provide you with an opportunity to explore and design innovative imaging ideas and concepts from ideation all the way into development, verification, and validation in real-world. You will be working in a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers who work on state-of-the-art ultrasound imaging solutions that capture and process the largest ultrasound datasets in the world. The ideal candidate is both scientific-minded and pragmatic. Someone who has the desire to work and grow in a fast-paced technology environment.

This role is on-site and is based out of DarkVision's head office in North Vancouver, BC, where employees enjoy full access to our facility amenities including a well-equipped gym, squash court, climbing wall, steam room, private showers, and more.

Our Team

The Research & Innovation team helps with early-stage ideation, research, experimentation, development, verification, and proof of concept. Once these phases are completed, the results are passed to our engineering team for proper development and integration into our existing products and solutions.

What You Will Do

• Use ultrasound imaging solutions to solve real-world industrial problems.
• Conduct research, experiment, data acquisition, and data processing.
• Explore and design innovative imaging ideas and concepts from ideation to development and validation.
• Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

• Understanding of ultrasound imaging techniques and beamforming algorithms.
• Understanding of different signal processing and image processing algorithms.
• Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or other scientific programming languages.
• Hands-on experience with software and algorithm development.
• Hands-on experience running simulations and experiments to validate ideas.
• Degree in Engineering, Physics, or other related fields.

What Will Put You Ahead

• Understanding of ultrasound-based Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) applications.
• Experience with ultrasound research systems such as Verasonics.
• Experience with industrial ultrasound simulation software such as CIVA or k-Wave.
• Familiarity with industrial ultrasound scanners such as OmniScan.
• Hands-on experience with software and algorithm development for industrial ultrasound scanners.
• Comfortable with C/C++ programming.
• Relevant portfolio (past projects and publications) related to ultrasound imaging.

General Salary Range

For this role, we anticipate paying $70,000 to $110,000 per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
