What You'll Bring

Required

  • Diploma or degree in environmental science, biology, natural resources, or a related discipline.

  • Registered Professional Biologist (or equivalent).

  • 3+ years of experience in environmental monitoring on construction projects.

  • Electrofishing certification and experience completing fish salvage operations.

  • Intermediate First Aid and Transportation Endorsement.

  • Strong commitment to safety and adherence to established Health & Safety procedures.

  • Experience working around heavy machinery and active construction zones.

  • Knowledge of Federal, Provincial, and Territorial environmental regulations and guidelines relevant to construction.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, problem‑solving abilities, and collaboration skills.

  • A positive, proactive, self‑starting approach aligned with ERM's global mission.

  • Willingness and ability to travel to remote locations, stay in work camps, follow site safety/orientation requirements, and complete drug and alcohol testing.

  • Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area.  

  • This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

Preferred

  • ATV Safety training.

  • Swiftwater Rescue certification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular on‑site environmental monitoring during all phases of construction to ensure compliance with environmental permits, regulations, and mitigation plans.

  • Document site conditions, contractor compliance, and environmental concerns through detailed field notes, photographs, and daily reports.

  • Communicate issues promptly and support development of corrective actions.

  • Lead fish salvage operations in accordance with provincial and federal requirements.

  • Apply appropriate fish capture techniques (minnow trapping, electrofishing, seining) to safely relocate aquatic species.

  • Maintain accurate records of fish handling, species identification, relocations, and environmental conditions.

  • Uphold animal welfare standards and safety procedures at all times.

  • Assess, install, and maintain erosion and sediment control (ESC) measures such as silt fences, turbidity curtains, diversion channels, and sediment traps.

  • Monitor water quality (e.g., turbidity, pH) to ensure compliance with regulatory thresholds.

  • Prepare daily or weekly monitoring reports with data, observations, and recommended actions.

  • Liaise with contractors, engineers, environmental specialists, and regulatory agencies as necessary.

  • Participate in environmental toolbox meetings and provide guidance on best management practices.

For the Senior Consultant, Environmental Monitor position, the anticipated hourly base pay is $36.93–$47.56 (CAD). Actual pay will depend on factors such as education, experience, skills, location, performance, and business needs. In some cases, pay may fall outside this range. This role may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/flex force employees are not bonus eligible).
