Job Description

Ready to lead at the intersection of strategy, risk, and transformation? As a Principal Consultant, Auditor – EHS Regulatory Compliance & Management Systems based in Vancouver or Calgary, this management‑level role offers the opportunity to shape how global organizations operate - safely, responsibly, and sustainably. You'll step into a visible leadership position where your expertise influences executive decision‑making, drives innovation, and delivers measurable impact across industries that matter.

Why This Role Matters

ERM partners with the world's leading organizations to create safe, sustainable operations that protect people, the environment, and long‑term business value. In this role, you'll be at the forefront of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulatory compliance and management systems—guiding complex organizations through risk, change, and transformation.

As a Principal Consultant, Auditor – EHS Regulatory Compliance and Management Systems, you won't just deliver assessments—you'll help design how EHS excellence is embedded into global operations. Your leadership will directly influence how clients meet regulatory obligations, align with international standards, and build resilient, future‑ready systems.

What Your Impact Is

You'll act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, helping organizations navigate complex regulatory environments while strengthening their EHS culture and performance. From leading audits to shaping enterprise‑level strategies, your work will reduce operational risk, improve compliance outcomes, and elevate sustainability and safety as core business priorities.

You'll also play a key role in advancing ERM's Safe and Sustainable Operations practice—supporting high‑hazard sectors and contributing to globally recognized standards and frameworks.

What You'll Bring

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental, sustainability, health & safety science, engineering, or a related discipline.

  • 6+ years of EHS experience in consulting or industry, with exposure in Canada and ideally international contexts

  • Demonstrated experience assessing EHS management systems within high‑hazard sectors, including mining, oil & gas, petrochemicals, pulp & paper, and power generation

  • Strong working knowledge of Canadian EHS regulatory requirements

  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to engage senior leaders, operational teams, and external stakeholders

  • Proven ability to independently manage complex projects while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams

  • Willingness to travel up to 40%

  • Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area.

Preferred

  • Master's degree in environmental, sustainability, or a related field

  • 12+ years of EHS experience with global project exposure

  • Professional certifications such as EP (EMS LA), EP (CEA), CSRP, P.Eng., or similar credentials

  • Familiarity with data analytics, digital tools, or technology‑enabled solutions supporting EHS management systems

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead EHS regulatory compliance audits, management system assessments, and sustainability framework reviews—independently or within multidisciplinary teams

  • Design and implement strategies, processes, and tools to strengthen client EHS programs and governance structures

  • Support international standards and initiatives, including ICMM, CopperMark, Cyanide Code, and TSM, particularly within the mining sector

  • Manage national and global projects with a strong focus on safety, quality, and delivery excellence

  • Deliver training sessions, in‑field coaching, and impactful presentations for client teams and leadership groups

  • Build and maintain long‑term client relationships, contributing to repeat engagements and strategic partnerships

  • Collaborate across ERM's global network to share knowledge, innovate solutions, and continuously improve service offerings
