OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE
As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and infrastructure. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient data processing, storage, and accessibility for analytical and operational purposes.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING IN THE ROLE:
- Programming Languages: Utilize your expertise in Python, Java, or Scala to develop robust data solutions and applications for various data engineering tasks.
- SQL and Database Management: Demonstrate strong proficiency in SQL for designing, optimizing, and managing relational databases crucial for data storage and retrieval.
- Big Data Technologies: Employ your familiarity with tools like Databricks, Apache Hadoop, Apache Spark (PySpark), and Apache Kafka for processing and managing large-scale data efficiently.
- ETL Processes: Design and implement efficient ETL processes, extracting data from diverse sources, transforming it, and loading it into target databases for analysis and reporting.
- Data Modeling: Utilize your understanding of data modeling concepts, including normalization, denormalization, and tools like ERD, along with expertise in Delta Lake for reliable data lake management.
- Cloud Platforms: Apply your proficiency in AWS, Azure, or GCP for implementing and optimizing cloud-based solutions for data storage and processing.
- Data Orchestration: Utilize knowledge of tools like Azure Data Factory or Apache Airflow for managing and orchestrating data workflows efficiently.
- Data Warehousing: Apply your knowledge of data warehousing concepts and tools such as Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, Azure Synapse, or Snowflake for building and managing large-scale data warehouses.
- Version Control Systems: Utilize experience with Git or similar systems for collaborative code management in a team environment.
- Data Quality and Validation: Ensure data quality by identifying anomalies, errors, and implementing validation processes to maintain high-quality data.
- Monitoring and Logging: Proactively monitor and log data pipelines, enabling issue detection, troubleshooting, and optimization to ensure reliability and performance.
- Communication and Collaboration: Effectively communicate and collaborate with team members, data scientists, and stakeholders, documenting processes and working closely with cross-functional teams.
WHAT SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS YOU'LL NEED TO DO THE JOB:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering or a similar role.
- Proficiency in Python, Java, or Scala and strong SQL skills.
- Experience with big data technologies, ETL processes, cloud platforms, and data warehousing tools.
- Familiarity with data modeling, version control systems, data quality/validation, monitoring, and logging.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
