Pay Range

OPSEU/VHA Pay Scale Level 4a: $24.19 per hour


 

The Program Assistant (Volunteer Services) is responsible for recruiting, onboarding, training, managing, and supporting volunteers to ensure their successful integration into the organization's programs and services. This role involves fostering a positive and engaging environment for volunteers while ensuring alignment with the organization's mission and goals.


 

Key Areas of Accountability:

  • Develop and implement volunteer recruitment strategies to attract individuals with diverse backgrounds and skills.

  • Facilitate application, screening, and interview processes for new volunteers.

  • Conduct orientation sessions to familiarize volunteers with the organization's policies, procedures, and values.

  • Assign tasks and schedules to volunteers based on their skills, availability, and the organization's needs.

  • Serve as the main point of contact for volunteers, addressing questions, concerns, and feedback promptly.

  • Monitor and evaluate volunteer performance, providing guidance and support as necessary.

  • Maintain accurate records of volunteer hours, assignments, and contact information.

  • Collaborate with program staff to identify volunteer needs and develop meaningful volunteer opportunities.

  • Maintain regular communication with volunteers through emails, newsletters, and meetings.

  • Collect feedback from volunteers to improve the program and address challenges.

  • Track and report on volunteer engagement metrics and program outcomes.

  • Prepare reports for management and stakeholders detailing the impact of volunteer contributions.

As this role is being funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program, the following are eligibility requirements:

  • You are between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment.
  • You are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (foreign students are not eligible).
  • You are legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
  • You have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

Key Skills, Experience and Behaviors Required for this Position:

  • Bachelor of Social Worker or related education
  • A Volunteer Management Certificate or experience supervising volunteers
  • Working knowledge in working with diverse communities
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • Excellent organization and team building skills
  • Skilled in community outreach and public speaking
  • A valid Ontario Driver's licence and use of a car
  • Knowledge of the City, TTC routes, and the various components of the Agency preferred
  • Computer skills in word processing and data entry
  • Demonstrate efforts to continuously develop and upgrade skills
  • Second language an asset
