Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

 

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for ensuring that financial information presented to end users for a group of designated companies is accurate, informative, and available in a timely manner. This includes the preparation of financial statements, key performance indicators, budgets and forecast and supporting schedules.  They will also maintain the general ledger to ensure accuracy of all accounts and manage accounting reconciliation for several operating companies.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

Management/Supervision/Leadership:

  • No supervisory responsibility

 

Financial and/or Budget:

  • Prepares, analyze and present month-end financial statements and various key performance indicators to the management group.
  • Prepares, analyzes and presents year-end budgets and forecasts to the management group.
  • Analyzes month-end variances and provides explanations to the management group
  • Prepares and files sales tax returns on a timely basis.
  • Prepares ad-hoc financial reports as requested.
  • Research's, analyzes and uses independent judgment in a variety of daily and non-routine decisions
  • Compiles year-end audit supporting documentation and act as the primary contact for auditor questions during the year-end audit process.

 

Health & Safety:

  • Work in compliance with the Health & Safety Act and regulations including using any equipment, protective devices or clothing required by the employer
  • Report any known workplace hazards or violations of the Act to the employer or supervisor. 

 

Technical / Function-Specific:

  • As stated under Financial section above

 

Internal / External Customer Service:

  • Establishes effective working relationships with management and other key stakeholders with the business.

 

Other / List Other Unique Major Categories:

  • Performs other duties and works on special projects as required.

 

Administration:

  • Ensures that all administrative tasks required for the department are completed promptly and in line with company standards and processes.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY OPERATE IN THE ROLE

 

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting
  • CPA designation preferred

 

Experience

  • 3 – 5 year of accounting experience
  • Experience using or setting up a CPM system for financial reporting, financial close and budgeting would be a key asset
  • Experience using a variety of accounting software
  • Experience working in manufacturing/ construction industry
