POSITION OVERVIEW:

 

Reporting to the Managing Director, Client Partnerships, the General Manager, Montreal Sales position plays a pivotal role in leading the advertising sales team for Eastern Canada based in Montreal. This individual will be responsible for driving team performance and maintaining a leadership profile for The Globe by building and maintaining strong client relationships with key partners and industry.


This leadership position involves strategic planning, and collaboration with various internal departments to deliver exceptional services to clients. As General Manager, this role is also responsible for the management of the physical office space for the Montreal team.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and execute a strategic sales plan to deliver on annual revenue targets across digital, print, and event channels
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing sales team by setting clear expectations and driving accountability for results
  • Drive strategic key account planning to grow revenue, increase share, and strengthen client retention across core accounts
  • Establish and lead negotiations on annual client and agency commitments, including conducting regular business reviews to drive growth
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with senior clients, agency partners, and industry contacts across Montreal and Eastern Canada
  • Monitor and analyze sales performance against targets, including forecasting, pipeline activity, and market insights
  • Prepare and deliver regular sales reporting to leadership, including forecasts, activity, and market sentiment
  • Ensure adherence to established processes for pricing, contracts, positioning, and inventory management
  • Oversee management of the Montreal office, including operational expenses and coordination with landlord and head office teams

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive sales management experience, including leadership experience
  • Minimum 5+ years of digital media sales experience
  • Bilingual proficiency in French and English
  • Strong knowledge of and established relationships within the Montreal and Eastern Canada digital advertising market
  • Experience driving solutions-based, multi-platform advertising sales
  • Strong understanding of agency dynamics, campaign planning, industry trends, technologies, and pricing models
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities with the ability to motivate, engage, and develop high-performing teams
  • Strong business judgment with an understanding of sales measurement and performance tracking
  • Passion for data and technology, with the ability to translate insights into client-facing solutions
