Civeo is seeking an experienced Wildlife Technician for a 6-month contract to support the delivery of a proactive, compliant, and safety focused wildlife management program across our lodge operations. This role plays a critical part in minimizing wildlife-human interactions while ensuring the protection of people, wildlife, and the environment.

Working closely with internal stakeholders, regulators, and third-party contractors, you will lead field based wildlife prevention, monitoring, and response activities-particularly related to black bear management-while supporting regulatory compliance and wildlife safety training initiatives.

The successful candidate will work 15 days on and 13 days off rotation at our Ft McMurray Lodges.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and execution of annual wildlife monitoring and prevention strategies in accordance with provincial regulations
  • Ensure compliance with Fish and Wildlife Protocol 15 related to black bear and human interactions
  • Respond to problem and nuisance wildlife incidents and coordinate mitigation activities
  • Liaise with Provincial and Federal regulators for permitting, renewals, and mandatory reporting
  • Act as a subject matter expert on applicable Wildlife Acts and regulations across lodge jurisdictions
  • Conduct lodge inspections to identify wildlife attractants and recommend compliant mitigation measures
  • Manage and coordinate third-party wildlife contractors, ensuring hazing activities meet regulatory standards
  • Lead bear safety initiatives, including annual bear awareness training and certification for field personnel
  • Support permitting and reporting related to bear hazing, beaver activity, and dam removal
  • Assist with the development and review of Safe Work Instructions related to wildlife interactions
  • Research and evaluate emerging wildlife deterrence methods and technologies
  • Partner with HSE and Operations to support wildlife safety training, incident investigations, and corrective actions
  • Prepare regular reports for regulators, internal stakeholders, and senior leadership

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree as a Wildlife Technician or Biologist from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • Minimum 2 years of black bear hazing experience
  • Valid Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) - Unrestricted
  • Standard Level C First Aid/CPR certification
  • Strong working knowledge of wildlife legislation and regulatory compliance
  • Experience managing vendors and third-party contractors
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a satisfactory 5-year driving record
  • Ability to pass pre-access drug and alcohol testing
