The Senior Director of Strategy & Business Development plays a critical leadership role in defining and executing Orion Steel's strategic priorities. Reporting to the SVP, this role partners closely with corporate and operating company leadership to drive growth initiatives, conduct market and competitive analysis, support strategic planning, and lead M&A execution. The Senior Director operates as both a strategic leader and hands-on contributor, developing the analyses, frameworks, and processes that inform key business decisions across Orion Steel and its subsidiaries.
Partner with the SVP and functional leaders to develop, refine, and communicate the company's long-term strategy and annual strategic priorities
Manage the company's annual strategic planning and goal-setting cycle, including business unit reviews, KPI tracking, and initiative reporting
Lead cross-functional teams in translating strategy into actionable initiatives with measurable outcomes
Support business transformation, operational improvement, and strategic growth initiatives as prioritized by the SVP and CEO
Lead research and analysis on steel and key end markets (rail, energy, construction, infrastructure, etc.) to identify trends, risks, and opportunities
Maintain and enhance internal market models, pricing databases, and dashboards supporting forecasting and business planning
Conduct competitor benchmarking, market sizing, and profitability analyses to inform decision-making and commercial strategy
Collaborate with Finance and Commercial teams to ensure consistency between strategic insights, budgeting, and forecasting
Support ongoing portfolio optimization, divestitures, and investment cases.
Partner with Commercial, R&D, and Operations teams to identify new product, customer, and market growth opportunities
Translate market and customer insights into actionable business cases and go-to-market strategies
Manage and mentor strategy analysts and associates, fostering analytical rigor, professional growth, and cross-functional collaboration
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, or related field; MBA or advanced degree strongly preferred
10-12+ years of experience in corporate strategy, business development, management consulting, investment banking, or related fields (preferably in metals, manufacturing, or industrial sectors)
Strong financial modeling, market analysis, and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated success in driving strategic initiatives and managing complex, cross-functional projects
Excellent executive communication, presentation, and stakeholder management abilities
Proven ability to balance strategic thinking with operational execution in a fast-paced environment
