Job Description

The Purchasing Agent II primary responsibility is to purchase goods and services in support of Vancouver Shipyard Maintenance, Repair, and Operations in accordance with competitive buying practices and Company policies.

Note: this is a unionized position with MoveUP, Local 378 of the Canadian Office and Professional Employees Union. This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.

What you'll do

  • Check and verify authenticity and approval status of purchase requisitions for goods and services
  • Conduct market sounding and sourcing activities to support Vancouver Shipyards' purchasing requirements
  • Evaluate quality, service, lead times, and pricing received in the form of Supplier quotations
  • Schedule, prioritize, and expedite deliveries of goods and services as required by Shipyard operations
  • Arrange freight and customs brokerage, where appropriate
  • Check and maintain inventory levels as required by Shipyard operations
  • Route financial approvals
  • Train on the P2P system when required
  • Receive, fix, and troubleshoot invoices in TAP
  • P-card use- maintain, reconcile, and approve
  • Set up and explain the vendor approval system
  • Receive/fix and troubleshoot NCR
  • Issue IFS PO's as required

What you'll bring
  • Completion of grade 12, preferably supplemented by advanced purchasing courses through the Purchasing Management Association of Canada (PMAC), the Logistics Institute of Canada, the Association for Operations Management (APICS), or similar
  • 3-5 years of experience working in a Marine Industry/Shipyard purchasing role
  • Experience and good judgment in securing best-value goods and services to meet Shipyard operational requirements
  • Knowledge of the Marine Industry
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with Seaspan personnel and our Suppliers
  • Ability to make decisions by the rules, regulations, Company Policies and Procedures
  • Strong working knowledge of JD Edwards Enterprise One systems.

The estimated salary for this position is $76,000 - $93,000. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package. Apply
