THIS IS A LESS THAN 12 MONTH POSITION. Incumbents in this position will work from July to April.

Reporting to the Associate Dean, the incumbent supports laboratory classroom activities, student success operations, supports equipment maintenance and clinical inventory. This includes organizing and coordinating student learning activities and demonstrations; setting up equipment; maintaining learning tools, equipment and supplies; and maintaining accurate student and patient records. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

• Facilitating student practice and reinforcing applied principles / theory related to veterinary technician/assistant skills, procedures and patient assessment
• Supporting student learning and reinforcement of skills through laboratory classroom support and tutorial sessions
• Collaborating with faculty to formulate a plan of action, and provide individual coaching to students struggling to demonstrate skill competency
• Providing feedback to faculty on observed skills for students
• Organizing and implementing training / orientation for students and faculty on the use of equipment in the Georgian College Veterinary Hospital (GCVH)
• Setting up equipment and supplies in the lab for student practice and other events as required
• Ensuring all lab safety standards or electronic and other safety requirements (i.e. sharps, Biosafety regulations etc.) in a health care environment are followed
• Collaborating with the Clinic RVTs to communicate equipment and inventory needs
• Organizing, maintaining, and purchasing supplies for full and part-time studies courses
• Maintaining accurate student and patient records

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must possess, and maintain, current registration in good standing as a Registered Veterinary Technician with OAVT
• Must have completed a 2-year Diploma in Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Technology
• Adequate rabies vaccination titre
• Five years of experience as an RVT in small animal practice/emergency/referral practice(s)
• Confidence with anesthesia protocols and practices, and managing anesthetic treatment plans
• Ability to manage anesthesia/medical patient cases while supporting student learning experience
• Experience in training and demonstrating skills to others
• Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety rules and regulations in a veterinary health care environment
• Computer skills and experience using the MS Office Suite
• Excellent Interpersonal and communication (oral & written) skills
• Must be self-directed with the ability to work independently and as a team member
• Proven analytical, critical thinking, decision making, and problem-solving skills
• Demonstrated planning and time management skills
• Familiarity and ability to apply low stress handling with patients
• Current RECOVER CPR certification
• Proficient in the use of Avimark
