POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a Data Scientist to join our team at The Globe as we continue to harness the power of AI to enhance our journalism and optimize business operations. This role involves supporting a variety of data science projects, applying cutting-edge technologies to prototype new solutions and refine existing ones. The aim is to leverage data to guide key decisions, optimize content delivery, and enhance reader engagement.

RESPONSIBILTIES: 

  • Contribute to our AI core, including generative AI as well as classic Machine Learning applications, predictive models, and other advanced data science initiatives.
  • Collaborate with editorial, marketing, and product teams to leverage data insights for strategic decision-making.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams for integrating data pipelines, deploying machine learning models, and providing insights to improve processes.
  • Conduct research to keep up with the ever-changing AI landscape, including new models, tools, and best practices.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or Machine Learning required; Master's or PhD preferred.
  • 3+ years of industry experience in data science.
  • Self-motivation and team collaboration, with excellent communication skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, with an aptitude for independently learning new technologies or researching new algorithms.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Python, Java, Scala, or R.
  • Knowledge of Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques and tools.
  • Work experience in implementing machine learning algorithms.
  • Experience with information retrieval and generative models, especially LLMs.
  • Preferred work experience in cloud environments, such as AWS.
  • Preferred work experience with big data frameworks, such as Spark.
