Technical Writer

Harris Healthcare

Remote - Canada or US

Are you an experienced Technical Writer looking for a new challenge? Harris Healthcare is looking for an experienced Technical Writer with SDLC knowledge to join our Research and Development team. As part of Harris Healthcare's Research and Development team, you will be responsible for the establishment and oversight of documentation practices for Harris Healthcare products. This role requires the ability to work across various departments/teams to achieve content that is friendly to both internal and external audiences.  The ideal candidate must be a self-starter, well organized, and very detail oriented. You will be reporting to the Senior Manager of Research and Development.

This position is fully remote within the continental United States or Canada.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research, write, and edit technical content reflecting application functionality and design using established templates. Content deliverables include release notes, defect reports, reference manuals, user guides, and HTML help.

  • Write technical documentation for assigned product lines based on review of technical specifications, analysis, and hands-on research/testing of system functionality.

  • Follow and maintain Harris Healthcare format and style standards for documentation.

  • Function as a Team Lead:

    • Coordinate the project workload among writers to ensure timely delivery of user documentation.

    • Perform peer review to ensure content accuracy and consistency.

    • Evaluate, implement, and improve the documentation platform and overall process of content authoring.

  • Effectively collaborate with developers, business analysts, and other subject matter experts to gather data for documentation, clarify documentation needs and requirements, and attain final approvals.

  • Participate in Agile teams to better understand sprint goals and deliverables, and to deliver sprint documentation within established timelines.

  • Plan, strategize, and execute structural and content changes in documentation.

  • Manage document lifecycle from inception to completion (planning, researching, writing, editing, and distributing).

  • Plan and steer meetings related to documentation management.

Required Skills

  • Degree in English, Technical Writing, Journalism, Communications, Healthcare, Computer Science, or related field.

  • 4+ years of professional experience in technical communications and writing.

  • Advanced knowledge of documentation software, including Adobe FrameMaker, RoboHelp, Snagit, and Microsoft Office.

  • Proficient in change tracking software such as Perforce Helix, Atlassian Jira, and Git.

  • Excellent writing skills and the ability to work under tight deadlines.

  • Experience in managing multiple projects concurrently.

  • Strong organizational ability and analytical thinking skills.

  • Excellent communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Excellent English writing skills with document editing and proofreading experience.

WHAT WOULD MAKE YOU STAND OUT

  • Previous Technical Writer experience with software companies.

  • Clinical experience or experience in healthcare industry a major plus.

  • Fluent in French
