Salary Range: $17.00
Hours per week: Up to 24 hours per week - Current hours anticipated to be 24 hours per week
Status: Part-time (Temporary Replacement)
Effective Date: As soon as possible to April 15, 2022

THIS IS A TEMPORARY REPLACEMENT POSITION FOR A BARGAINING UNIT EMPLOYEE. Terms and conditions of employment are as outlined in the Support Staff Collective Agreement.

Reporting to the Director, Libraries and Academic Success, the incumbent provides customer service to patrons at the Library Customer Desk. Specific duties include but are not limited to:

• Delivering circulation services including registering patrons: charging, discharging and renewing library materials using the automated library system
• Collecting and recording overdue fines; answering phones: answering patron inquiries and directing calls
• Accepting payment for services and overdue using debit, visa or cash; and carries out opening and closing procedures
• Maintaining library's collections including the sorting, shelving, counting, stamping, tattle taping and withdrawing of materials
• Ensuring that materials requiring repair are directed to Technical Services
• Providing assistance to faculty and staff with library computers and printers Demonstrating use of equipment, follows trouble shooting procedures when necessary
• Completing IT tickets for repair when necessary
• Ensuring supplies are available and carries out regular maintenance and cleaning duties associated with equipment and facilities
• Providing referral service to students seeking Library and Academic Success services and broader Student Services
• Providing introductory assistance in the use of the library catalogue, web page and electronic products

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Successfully completed a post-secondary certificate
• A minimum of one-year experience in an automated library environment providing customer service to patrons
• Experience handling cash and accepting payments for library services or overdue fines
• Experience maintaining a library's collection including sorting and shelving materials
• Demonstrated experience with copiers, printers and scanners
• Computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, etc.) to answer inquires and research information
• Experience with Blackboard and Library automated system
• Communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills to answer inquiries and provide reference / referral services
• Customer service and conflict resolution skills to liaise with a variety of stakeholders
• Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to multitask and set priorities in an environment prone to interruption
• Ability to work independently or within a team environment
• Ability to work non-traditional hours (evening and weekend work)
